DEAD PLANET 1-3: Prologue

1: Another Bug Hunt

Asher: Doc Marty. Justin: Ghoul. Scotty: Jakun.

Doc Marty and his rat, Ghoul and his dog, LCpl Wieg, and Jakun drop down on Sansa VI to investigate the abandoned colony Greta Base. After some investigation an infected marine was found in the garage. He hatched into an adult carcinid and chased the crew through the base. Wieg’s eyes are gouged out by the carc and she’s killed.

Marty and Ghoul (after nearly dying twice) escape to the medbay and discover the specimen samples. Jakun, partway infected, retains consciousness and turns the power on. The crew reconvenes at the command center.

Jakun repairs the comms while Ghoul and Marty retrieve the specimen samples through the vents. After hailing the Aphrodite and running to escape they run into the carcinid in the commissary. Ghoul and Marty duck past, but after critically failing another sanity save Jakun succumbs to the hive mind and abandons humanity. With the specimens intact Ghoul and Marty safely return to the Aphrodite...

2: Urban Legend

Scotty: Doc Marty. Rob: KR&.

The resident android of commercial trucking vehicle “The Aphrodite” KR& wakes Doc Marty from cryosleep when the ship exits warp space and is stranded in a derelict graveyard. The derelicts, a hundred spacecraft or so, orbit a dark stormy planet with a large red moon circling closely. The only derelict with its lights on is the nearby “Alexis.” Doc Marty investigates the warp core in the Aphrodite and finds it corroding; partially transforming into a dense dark unknown substance. Something went wrong while in warp space. KR’s scans of the Alexis show it to be an archaeologist research vessel with no signs of life, but life support and artificial gravity systems are still online. KR communicates with the COpilot AI and it transcribes that the Alexis team as scheduled to return to a Company colony 18 days ago. After docking the Aphrodite to the Alexis the duo notices a horrifying statue in the derelict’s docking bay: steel metal in twisted organic forms, stretched limbs, an inhuman amount of eyes. Six seemingly dead crew members kneel around it, arms and foreheads pressed against the metal mock-religiously. After opening the airlock boarding doors and entering the Alexis the duo hears a predatory roar echo through the vents of the derelict. The corpses around the statue flicker with automatic movement — eyelids and fingers twitching, robotically rubbing the statue — but no intelligence or notion of getting up and leaving their kneeling position. KR and Marty retreat back into the Aphrodite and scan the Alexis again from the command center. For just a few more minutes there are life signs everywhere inside the derelict. One large one in particular. Then, suddenly: nothing. Zero vitals. KR and Marty wake remaining crew members from cryosleep in preparation for venturing into the abandoned vessel in search of supplies and clues to their alien surroundings...

3: The Screaming on the Alexis

Scotty: Doc Marty. Rob: KR&. Christian: Igor Igor.

KR and Marty wake up one of the marines aboard the Aphrodite: Igor Igor. KR investigates the Alexis, and after some wandering, invites Igor onto the ship as well. Marty monitors the command module of the Aphrodite, doing frequent scans on the Alexis.

KR and Igor use the skeleton archaeological walkers to stack shipping crates in front of the Alexis’ cargo bay airlocks. Eventually the corpses around the statue flicker to life again and a thumping is heard within the vents. A feline figure, feminine-faced with oily black hair, elongated liquified face and canine fangs drags itself out of a vent with long triple-segmented arms. And suddenly the flickering stops and the creature disappears. KR and Igor investigate further, finding a science lab and more corpses. They run into the creature again but it disappears. Marty scans and identifies a medbay on the second level of the Alexis. KR and Igor locate the room and Marty joins them. As Igor and Marty analyze the equipment and start to load it on to their ship, KR uses a skeleton walker to transport the statue from the Alexis into a cargo container on the Aphrodite. When Igor and Marty are about to leave the Alexis the lights flutter again and the creature crawls out of a door. It unfurls itself like an anemone and snaps its jaws at Igor. He sustains damage but is able to run out of the room with Marty. KR rigs a skeleton walker to charge and self-destruct, trapping the creature on board the Alexis. All three of the crew make it back on to the Aphrodite with medical tools in tow. They command the Aphrodite toward the moon of the Dead Planet as Doc Marty analyzes his materials...
