Drolo the Transient Archmage

Drolo is the living embodiment of "if a tree falls in a forest, and there's no one around to hear it, does it make a sound?" He lives in the Ninth Cavity, a secluded cave on the eastern coast of Babilanaya. He doesn't exist unless he's interacted with. When travelers visit the Ninth Cavity, Drolo is there. But when those travelers leave (or sleep, or die) there is no longer Drolo. Otherwise Lefort would descend into chaos.

Drolo is a chaotic archmage, but not necessarily an evil one. The laws placed upon reality are evil, and he intends to break all of them. True freedom is spiritual anarchy.

When Drolo does exist it is in a state of change. Every even day he exists in his Peaceful form and every odd day he exists in his Wrathful form.

The forgotten forms of Drolo the archmage

In his Peaceful form Drolo appears as a teenage human boy covered in golden body paint. His eyes are closed and he has an out-of-place, thin mustache. Peaceful Drolo wears a simple cloth around his waist and smiles contently. When travelers first encounter Peaceful Drolo he's silently (and immovably) meditating. Once the travelers take their eyes off of him he's now:

1 - Filling tea cups with a porcelain kettle, wordlessly inviting the travelers to sit around a campfire on soft throw pillows.

2 - Playing a pan flute and petting a blue desert bird. He's softly singing songs of his legendary adventures.

3 - Stretching on a yoga mat of knitted reeds.

4 - Writing poems with chalk on a clay tablet while observing nature.

Peaceful Drolo has interacted with many of the notable figures on the island, and tells travelers tales of his compassionate and trustworthy allies.

Drolo? Or his tiger?

Wrathful Drolo appears as a stocky, seven-foot-tall warrior covered in golden body paint. His eyes are open in a permanently wide frown, never blinking, and he has a large mustache that trails down to his knees. He wears multicolored robes and decorative armor, smiling and laughing into the sky. When travelers first encounter Wrathful Drolo he's in a fierce wrestling match with a tiger. Once the travelers take their eyes off of him he's now:

1 - Flying through the air trying to catch and eat a flock of desert birds.

2 - Boisterously shouting a song about his demon-hunting exploits.

3 - Cackling in between chugging a gourd full of alcohol, as he runs across the desert spelling curse words and dirty jokes in the sand.

4 - The tiger. He's shapeshifted into the tiger and is wrestling an illusion of himself.

Wrathful Drolo has also interacted with many of the notable figures on the island (and pissed most of them off), and tells travelers tales of the rudest and most untrustworthy.

Drolo is a famous demon hunter, but his temporary mode of existence has made him out to be a myth. He'll continue to exist if travelers invite him on their journey, as long as they're alive, one of them is awake, and they're willing for Drolo to stay.

Drolo is notably sought after for his Void Step spell. Peaceful Drolo will transport anyone to anywhere they desire. Wrathful Drolo demands to be bested in a magical duel first. As in, he immediately starts fighting anyone who asks, bellowing deep laughter and playing floating drums that manifested while no one was looking.

Drolo is inspired by Padmasambhāva, or Guru Rinpoche, a buddhist Vajra master and demon slayer.
